Luke 5:1-11, Matthew 6:24-34

Luke 5:1-11 pg. 1,597

v.1: “One day as Jesus was standing by the sea of Galilee the people were CROWDING around Him and listening to the WORD of GOD.”

Where ever there is an active, outward facing Church that embraces the tone and the posture of Jesus, doing what Jesus calls ‘Good’:

  • PEOPLE get better
  • COMMUNITIES get better
  • FAMILIES get better
  • NATIONS get better

“God, EVERYTHING in heaven and earth is YOURS.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Jesus’ kind of good:

  • Do GOOD for those who CAN’T return the favor.
  • Do GOOD for those who WON’T return the favor.

AVERAGE Generosity: Reflects the INFLUENCE of Jesus, but doesn’t reflect the actual TEACHING of Jesus.

  • EMOTIONAL
  • OCCASIONAL
  • AFFORDABLE

Matthew 6:24-35 (pg. 1,505)
v33: “But seek FIRST His KINGDOM and His RIGHTEOUSNESS and ALL these things will be GIVEN to you as well.”

TRUST

v.24: “No one can serve TWO MASTERS. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be DEVOTED to the one and DESPISE the other. You cannot SERVE both GOD and MAMMON.”

The issue isn’t are we GIVING. The issue is Who am I TRUSTING?

JESUS Generosity: Reflects the TEACHING of Jesus.

  • PLAN
  • PERCENTAGE
  • FREELY

Give from a GRATEFUL heart and a BROKEN heart.

“Heavenly Father, how do you want us to participate in what You are doing?”
